Sweetest Day Is This Saturday?!?

So I woke up this morning and it suddenly hit me that it’s Sweetest Day this Saturday. How ironic, you can guess that I totally forgot all about it! Therefore if you're a busy and forgetful bee like me and did not get your significant other anything... yet, I am here to come up with last-minute ideas of how to rescue a poor soul. Dramatic blather asides, so what is Sweetest Day exactly? Sweetest Day is a day in which we celebrate romance, love, and friendship, showing our appreciation for friends, family, and co-workers. And to be honest, Sweetest Day is just essentially a holiday created by gift companies to sell more product. It has nowhere near the prominence of Valentine’s Day. So if you don't celebrate random holidays, (like Boss Day or No-bra Day or Hug Day... I seriously don't know who came up with these holidays) you don't have to. But Mr. Lee and I celebrate every-endearment-holidays-that-known-to-mankind together every year, I just need to come up with something fast, lightning fast. Since this year Sweetest Day lands on weekend, it'll be much easier to plan out. Here are some quick and easy ways to cover the fact that you forgot and make your partner smile:

  • Wake him/her up with breakfast in bed. A cup of hot choco is alternative.
  • Put on a nice slow song and ask him/her to dance. Yes, in the middle of your living room. Don't be shy, love is there to guide your steps.
  • Go and pick up 2 movie tickets to that new movie you and him/her have been dying to see. Imagine how nice it'd be to link arms in a cozy, dark theater. Make-out session is totally allowed in my book.
  • Cook his/her favorite dinner, whether it's instant Mac and Cheese or his/her favor piece of tender steaks and asparagus, they will appreciate the thoughts and effort you put in. There's nothing that says "I love you" better than a plate full of food, because we all know "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach." And in this case, a woman's stomach as well.
  • And if you're not at all a good cook, feel free to casually drop the info that you’re taking him/her out to dinner. After all, it is Sweetest Day! Then feel free to put Siri to work with this iPhone app called 'Open Table'. Make a reservation somewhere fancy and your job is done.
  • Stores like Walgreens and Pick n' Save have many deals for holidays like Sweetest Day. You could definitely find your perfect last-minute flower bouquet or teddy bear. Just make sure you give yourself some spare time because the line will be filled with people like us, who unfortunately... probably forgot the holiday as well.
  • And if you're short on money or just wanna be plain creative, then bust out your old Post-it notes and write down the things you love about your significant other. From his/her beautiful hair to his/her magnetic smile to the way they make you feel, this is your chance to be completely honest and rekindle the flames. Put the notes all over the house, wherever the area reminds you of his/her existence in your life.
  • You could also download another iPhone app called 'HeartBooth', that does a little something like this... (I have no ideas who the guy in the picture is, just an example I found on Google) but this is a fun and awesome way to show them how loved they are.
  • Shoot them a quick text msg and tell them how much you love him/her. It doesn't matter if they are in the same place as you. It'll catch him/her completely off-guard. I post down below a picture of something simple you could do. Aren't those hand gestures so easy and cute? You'll definitely win some major points.

  • Do it old school and ask him/her on a mini road trip. Like the kind that you just let the road takes you for a day to a beautiful place, or stop whenever you wanna stop. Have a soulful playlist and have it playing while you're driving. Enjoy the sceneries and reminisce the old memories together. Don't ask questions like 'How'd we first met?' or 'When'd we first kiss?' It's not police-criminal interrogation time. People don't always remember things from way past, not because they don't care but because life is straightforwardly hectic. Say things like 'Remember that one time we snuck in our neighbor's pool?' or 'We used to eat Snapple bars together all the times, remember?' You guys will have a good time recollecting each other.
  • Lucidly take his/her hand and give it a gentle kiss. It has a powerful meaning that despite the busy lives you two lead everyday, you still have love and respect for him/her.
  • And if you're a homebody and totally don't want to get up and get fancy, order Chinese take-out. Or Japanese or whatever your heart desires. Have his/her PJs laid out on the couch and put on their favorite show. True Blood marathon is always sexy and will definitely get you in the mood. A few candles here and there don't hurt.

Well there they are, I think those are some great last-minute ideas that will be perfect for this Sweetest Day. Just remember, it doesn't matter what you do, whether it's big or small, just do it with love, your special ones will surely realize it and appreciate every single ounce of it. And if you have any other cool ideas, feel free to e-mail me at vngotran@gmail.com and let me know. I'm always up for new awesome things to do because we all know I'll need them in the time to come.

HAVE A GREAT NIGHT EVERYONE. LOVE ALL. WITH HEARTS.

"It takes a second to say I love you, but a lifetime to show it."
